Health, Safety and Environmental
This project was specifically selected by Armstrong to trial run a revolutionary recycling programme. Their End-Of-Life (EOL) recycling scheme takes used mineral wool tiles and recycles them 100 percent into new ceiling tiles at its state-of-the-art Team Valley production facility in Gateshead. Due to the hard work and diligence of our workforce, we managed to achieve a total volume of 2,950 kilos of good material recycled into the manufacturing process with only 17 kilos of waste going to landfill.
Attached below are promotional advertisements produced by Armstrong, specifically detailing the environmental achievements which were made during the course of this project.

Project
Name: The Knowsley Park Centre for LearningProject Address: Cumber Lane, Whiston, Knowsley L35 2XG
Client: Knowsley MBC
Principal Contractor: Balfour Beatty Construction (Northern) Ltd
Timescale: 23 Weeks
Project Value: £805,000.00
Kinder Interiors Ltd worked very closely with Balfour Beatty on this development forming part of the Knowsley BSF schools project. Each school was designed to provide a state of the art learning centre, offering the best modern amenities available, with extensive sports facilities, car parking and playgrounds.
This new build project required certain design and build elements throughout. There were various elements which required Kinder's to be heavily involved throughout the construction process, to ensure the items were buildable whilst keeping within budget and timescale.
Specialist design elements requiring in-depth consultation included forming high performance bulkhead encasements on the top floor. These were to be formed on the underside of the roof, which could not be fixed into. We were also requested to incorporate a 40mm plus and minus deflection allowance to all partitions below.
Another aspect requiring high level input was the design and construction of the Steel Framing System (SFS) walls to the sports hall. The walls had to be able to withstand all aspects of daily use and be able to maintain the impact and loads that they would be subjected to throughout its duration in use. These walls had to be built to specific dimensions to ensure that the finished size of the hall met the specific requirement of 18 meters wide by 33 meters long, to enable the school to qualify for a government grant off Sports England. The school has been designed around a new approach to child learning which incorporates open plan learning / home base areas along with visual (TV) projections. The school also has an open plan atrium area with retractable seating which also serves as a dining and learning space. Due to the size and nature of the area there were various acoustic aspects to overcome. This was achieved by installing coloured, feature acoustic wall panels around the perimeter of the open space including the first and second floor levels.
Another detailed aspect of this project was the high acoustic sound performance required to be achieved within the music teaching and recording rooms. We had to ensure that all partition walls were scrupulously built to specific acoustic design details to ensure the required dB ratings were achieved throughout. We achieved a high standard of finish throughout this project and having completed within the required timescale, gave us very positive feedback for our company from the Principal Contractor.
Health, Safety and Environmental
During the course of this project we were requested to participate in a Health & Safety Executive (HSE) sub-contractor vetting programme organised by the Principal Contractor. This required us to give a formal presentation to an inspector from HSE.
The presentation was required to detail all aspects of our internal safety management systems in relation to this project.
Questions were asked throughout the presentation from all delegates in relation to the information provided. On completion of the presentation, an inspection of our work activities was undertaken by the HSE Inspector, who also asked our operatives questions in relation to the presentation given. Feedback from all attendees at the presentation was excellent and confirmed to us that our safety systems are both effective and comprehensive. Attached below is the letter we received from Kevin Jones (HM Inspector of Health & Safety) following our presentation.

During the course of this project we were also working in partnership with Balfour Beatty and Armstrong World Industries to again utilise Armstrong’s revolutionary Off-Cut Recycling (OCR) Scheme on this project. Due to our continued involvement in the scheme we were asked along with Balfour Beatty, to participate in a promotional video detailing the processes involved and the benefits of running such a recycling scheme.
